Angela "Admitting I have a lot to learn is easy - it's what makes life so interesting. I am studying with Pat Parelli now, working on my level two." Angela Riesterer.
There are plenty of books on preparing and riding at the show, what to feed and how to exercise the horse. Some horse books include content on vices and corrective measures. Safe solutions are using a trained professional and I recommend likewise if you are young or inexperienced. Most of the solutions offered in the normal type of books use mechanical devices and methods that are a means to an end and they simply force the horse to have no other choice.

Natural horsemanship deals with the animal's mind not just his body and uses the psychology of a prey animal to understand his fears. It teaches humans to realise that their predator type behaviour is often what causes the horse to mistrust humans as predators and prey animals are enemies in the wild.

You are conditioning your horse as you ride and handle him on the ground- you are TRAINING HIM! He learns what is and isn't tolerated from the minute you step toward him to catch him.

Natural horsemanship recognises that we are all horse trainers whether we realise that or not because horses will adopt different attitudes depending on their trainers. Taking responsibility for this is your choice - you are his trainer, Train Yourself to be more horsewise and you will have more fun as things become easier and a bond between you and your horse is formed.

Natural horsemanship is about respect and love for horses.
