A Masseur with a Difference

TOUCH ME… looking for a reason to have regular massages? According to America's Touch Research Institute massage heightens mental awareness, boosts the immune system, reduces pain, reduces stress and relieves depressive symptoms. As if you needed an excuse

Melanie Mitchell is a masseur by Divine appointment. She first attended a massage course so that she could help her husband ease his aches and pains. It was during the course that some of the other students remarked that she had healing hands. She had difficulty believing in herself and at first was inclined to give up but upon her husband's insistence, saw the course out until she gained her diploma in Swedish massage.

Some time after she set up a stall for massage at the Okara Markets which were in the old Glass Works buildings at what was to become the Okara Shopping Centre in Whangarei. The markets have since relocated and Melanie no longer operates a stall there. She does however massage people at her own home and as her massage table is portable, can also go to visit a client in their own home should the need arise.Melanie Massaging her horse

It quickly became apparent to Melanie that she was being led by an inner voice as to where she should apply more pressure or manipulation to certain muscles and thereby release the bodily parts to return to their normal position. She also uses pure essential oils to gently aid the muscles to relax. Animals have always sought her hands and began to let her know that she ought to apply pressure here or there to them and she gained confidence in her ability.

One evening when she was giving her horse some extra feed during the winter months, she felt compelled to do something to the leg of the horse and low and behold, the leg gave a crack and shifted back into place. Some time later when attending to the horse, the farrier asked what she had done to make the horse better. After explaining what she had done, he thought that other people with injured horses could benefit from her knowledge. She then branched out to treat horses as well as dogs and cats.Melanie massaging her cat

After shifting to Ruakaka, near the Race Course, she treated some of the racehorses and they often went on to improve. She also began to treat standardbreds and started to have some success with them too. One particular trotter called Armistice Lad has had some racing success since being treated by Melanie. His owners moved from the Bream Bay area to the Waikato and even brought the horse back to Ruakaka so that Melanie could minister (beneficially) to him last winter. He has since been sold. She has also successfully treated show jumpers, dressage horses and hunters. She can treat any animals or person if the need arises.
