we're so late tonight, bowling for hubbys birthday (finally now classed as older than me) then pizza with the family. Anyway, having kittens thinking about our first show next Sunday at 70cm, and thinking of a nice neckline and collected canter as well. Really want to keep up with shows and reduce anxiety but the next one is Hack Table C (max 80cm)at the Western hills Spring show in Lower Hutt, so another 10cm up the jumping stand. Obviously I won't even think of it until after next weekend but I am wondering...Think I am moving too fast and to stick with the lower height for now, who ever knew I would think of 70cm as a lower height! I am still not confident at 70cm but 60cm seems small.

I would stay at 70 and consolidate what you're learning. Emgee will start throwing in a bigger fence or two WHEN you're ready. A couple of 80cm uprights doesn't mean you and Ted are prepared for an entire course - yet! Plenty of season ahead of you both for the big time.

Jo just take your time - most of us aren't going to the Olympics so there is no rush :) You sound like you are doing SO well so it would be a shame to push yourself too early & then ruin your confidence.

Third what Karen and Sabre are saying - better to be confident and have fun!

  Bridget   Manawatu  7:55AM    11-Sep-10
Take your time and get comfortable with the 70cm first when you are going well there then move up. If you start over facing yourself, it wont take much for you to get a confidence knock.

Greg Best told me he recommended at least 5 good rounds at a height (at a show), with maybe a rail taken, otherwise all good before moving up to the next height. That was his rule of thumb which I thought was useful advice.

Look out for shows that have practise rounds, often if the first classes are for ponies they are set at the pony heights, same for the SH & SJ rings. Belmont don't usually do this for the spring show, but the other shows might have.

following on from today's mystery about Pixie's papers not matching her brand. I have had a response from Studbook and they have sent me her breeding. I found it on their website.
here tis is the small b black or brown?

Camilla ... and she was born on Hayden's birthday (just different year) so, sorry Anti, she's just a Scorpio!

camilla was her mother, Pixie isnt registered. Louise Im a bit bummed because the incorrect papers I have had for the last two years had her birthdate as being on the same day as mine ...

True, true - well, Pixie Caramel she will be then!! At least she doesn't have some really precious name already that you don't like. But she's still born on Hayden's birthday ... :p

Hard case Anti, she would've come here to be bred (her dam) - she may have foaled her last mare here, and if so we might have photos of her on record - but I'll have to go back through the negatives as that was well before digital. I've had some gorgeous Black Minn's - though they don't have a fantastic reputation on the track for being that mentally sound!

Don't be too upset as she actually has some good jumping lines in there...goes back to Nijinsky, Buckpasser and the well proven Northern Dancer on both sides. Even has Secretariat in there...:) Storm Cat line is becoming popular in the US for producing eventer/jumpers.

Secretariat and Northern Dancer were awesome race horses in their time back in America

Thanks MMM. Her having good jumping lines is a bit ironic as I dont think she will ever be a superstar jumper due to her old injury .... She does seem quite mentally sane and stable tho so maybe a good hack/low level fun parkie, or a broodmare. But I honestly think she would hate being a broodie. She loves attention and getting out and about

Hey there. I was just trying to remember if it was Ron Cooke that used to run Radar Lodge in Riverhead? Does anyone remember and if so when did he leave Radar Lodge?
Reply
  Louise   @thurstonlodge.co.nz  9:29PM    10-Sep-10
Don't think so - I think that's always belonged to the Simpson Family (Bruce & the late Pat). Raider Lodge is named after one of their successful SB's. I think Ron Cooke used to have another property - I think it was on the corner of Matua and Tahi Roads? But as far as I know it's been the Simpson's forever.

I feel sure he used to be based there and rent it. Mind you I am wrong on the very odd occasion.

He may have ... I can ask Bruce if you like? I know that Ron had a couple of places around Kumeu, one being the one I mentioned and then another one elsewhere, but I don't think it was R/Lodge, I just can't remember where - more out Riverhead way I think?????
