May not necessarly be the clutch slipping (sorry but if your step dad missed something like that when he test drove it I would be looking for 2nd opinions! Always always always mechanical check from a good MECHANIC not a technican or mate that knows about cars. Compression tests are a must for starters) but may be a leak in either slave or master cylinders, or even slipping belts or a cooling system issue thats causing it to run at higher revs. I use Takapuna Car Clinic for mine and find them very knowledgeable, will go that extra wee bit for you and very reasonably priced (although not the absolute cheapest). They can take it for a good test drive as see whats happening for themselves as well.

that sux Jessie. We hd fun and games today but thankfully not too expensvie. Water pump die and in the process took out some belts with it. Driving along suddenly hear horrendous wining, go to pull over and have no brakes. Thank God we were able to coast til we were going slow enough to use the handbrake to stop and doubly thankful it ended up being outside a garage! Huge ups to Millars car centre who drove out and dropped us off a spare car to use for a few days. Just very nerve wrackign ahving nice flash town car with a gravel muddy drive and two youg messy children!

I'm with Nic - get it checked by a mechanic - I am assuming here that your step dad isn't a mechanic!! It could be any number of things that could be easily fixed!! Good luck.

Jessie rather than buy a new one as your vehicle is not that old have them check the used parts place there was in Onehunga. I got one for my Isuzu cost $65 for the whole unit and lasted longer than the first replacement which was brand new when I had it put in.Cost less than $600 with labour to do. Whatever you have put in make sure you take it back and have it adjusted about 1-2 weeks later.

Sawyers ... but there's also a good used parts place in Otahuhu which specialises in Bighorns amongst other 4x4's so they're worth a shot too. Email me if you want their number.

No, but it's expensive stuff and I wouldn't buy their products just on principle, multi level marketing company; I looked into going into it a while back, NOT FOR ME!

I loved the High Chaparral as a kid. The family name was Cannon. Maybe you could play with names from the show?

Buffalo Girl (I always wanted to name a racehorse Buffalo Girl so the commentator could say 'buffalo girl goes round the outside' and then I could have an 80s flashback and laugh)

Belle Starr was a famous cowgirl in history. Good name but she was a notorious outlaw though so possibly not the best choice

Kitty Canute was another famous cowgirl. I have her as my screen saver : )
But my vote is for Buffalo Girl.

Ali that's a bit scary that you can remember the family's name from High Chaparral. Can you sing the theme song to Daniel Boone as well?

Daniel Boone wore the squirrel hat with the tail hanging down the back.

It was a coonskin hat. "From the coonskin hat on the top of ole' Dan to the heels of his rawhide shoes, the rippinest roarinest fightin'est man, the frontier ever knew...." Dainel Boone was the man.

Awesome ideas thank you - most of the High Chaparral names have been taken - we named one of them Big John Cannon - guttingly, he broke his leg after showing some phenominal talent.

Tell me to harden up PLEASE - I have had Frank 8 years and he has never been away from home in that time. We have had our own land for 3.5 years and Frank has never been off it over night and when he is off it it is always with me. Well this month he is off to my instrcutors for a week so I can have lessons and she can school him. That will mean I take him there on a Sunday and then pick him up the following Saturday. Will see him on the Wednesday in between. I am such a wuss that I am finding the thought of this so tough LOL I know it will be good but it is going to be so STRANGE to not have my boy in the paddock at home :O

I remember the dull, underweight, liceridden gelding who stepped off the truck at my place nine years ago. How time flies indeed! And of course he will be absolutely fine and may actually enjoy the change of scenery so here's a big cup of 'harden the f*** up' from me to you ;o)

I totally understand Lisa, I worry for my horses when they are away (arghh why did there have to be so many 'y's in that, the button doesn't work so I have to cut and paste the letter lol). If he is used to going to shows etc then it won't be a big deal to him, unlike my stay at homers, though to be honest only one is even remotely concerned and that's more about who will her bring food!?

Thank you all - I do know that he will be fine but he is my very special boy. It's crazy cause, Honey is off to Gavins in November for a month and I'm like cool she'll be started but Frank going for a week is so much worse LOL. He will more than fine at Jo's and I probably won't know him after some schooling from her - exciting but I know I will probably shed a tear when hubby and I head home with the empty float *sigh*

Harden up...but I do understand ;-) Had a tear in my eye as my mare went down the driveway for a months schooling. Was the first time she had traveled on a float and had never left the property before. Once she was safely there I was fine though and so pleased with the result.

Who has got their new Casual Membership info for NZPCA from Keith Scarlett yet. I want some feedback please. They have just introduced a NEW CASUAL MEMBERSHIP FORM for ALL people not already a member of a PC. This form is to be filled out by the riders for ANY PC run event, mini shows, Ribbon days, gymkhanas, ODT's etc etc....this is on top of your normal entry form. What do you all think? Logistical nightmare?

  Karen   Downsizing  11:53AM    10-Sep-10
It's kind of like the Day Rego for ESNZ, but for this year there's no extra cost. This Casual form is for adults and children who want to ride at a PC event, that do not already belong to a Branch.
