FibreMix could be doing it? I found Cobs got heat up on that so went back to FibrePro.

Hmmm maybee I should get a big sack of meadow hay chaff and try that
Reply
  Sabre   Auckland  1:45PM    09-Sep-10
Have you just been feeding fibremix without hay chaff? If so then yep I would definitely say that will be the culprit :)
Reply
  Simone -   Picture Perfect Paparoa!  1:50PM    09-Sep-10
Eezybeet is a recommended fibre source for grass affected horses so it won't be that but yep, any lucerne products could well be the culprit. Chuck heaps of salt in the feed as well.

Yip was just feeding the fibremix. Was trying to keep it all simple and use the same feed for all 3 LOL.

I cant feed it to my clydesdale or TB mare - clydie turns into a bronc and TB - a total nutcase. Just my experience

Getting there BeeBee, obviously you have well and truly had enough! I was just thinking that Debbie might know of someone in Timaru, and also Saskia would for sure, seeing as they were/are locals? Oh and Nancye Jack?

Price check please? Someone into (horse) driving maybe able to answer this one.....How much would an old trotting/pacing gig be worth, looks in good nick apart from needing a cushion tied onto the wooden seat:-) Also a homemade cart with a seat at the front & a trailer part at the back for carrying things looks sturdy for a solid hack/pony with big shafts....Also one similar but small pony sized with just a seat. Has anyone bought something similar recently that could give me an indication on $$. Ohh and is there a way to measure what sized horses would fit, easy with the gig but was thinking with the others is there a formula eg. sharft width, height length = approx this size pony?

Free to me : ) Take a look on TM - they are going from $350 on up, depending on condition.

Depends on if its wooden or metal and condition and brand. I got quite a few years ago now a full harness (including bridle and hobbles etc) plus cart for $250. Do you have a photo of it (and prefer not on facebook) - would say somewhere between the $100-300 mark depending on what its like (most probably lower end of an older cart)

It's a metal gig with metal spoke wheels, & the homemade larger one is metal also (has powdercoated shafts etc and a wooden cart/trailer part), didn't pay much attention to the smaller one. Yes could get photos, didn't have my camera with me today though. I was think of you Rachel with Gladys!

I might be interested in one - looking for something to use for Puff (rescue SB) she's too small for me to ride, so thought I would drive her instead. Just need to get all the gear. Just depends on cost to transport to ChCh.

Umm thats what I'm trying to find out:-) What I might do is get pics & have a decent look at condition as only really checked out the gig, then come back for another price check? Max the smaller cart maybe a doer uper, as was under the other two? Can email me if you want vision_12@hotmail.com and when I find out more details can forward them on, I was going to find out worth then maybe put on the next Friday sales ring on behalf of (non-horsey) friend.

Back at work today so have internet access, bit teary, and only one horse injured in quake, luckily not as bad as first thought. How did everyone else get on? I feel like I'm the only one that is struggling at the moment. Oh and I think the neighbours have the Rolleston fault line going through their property!

Struggling is normal. Don't be afraid to get to your doctor and get something to help you. Your adrenalin and seratonin levels will be completely out of whack after what you have been through. HUGE hugs from here and if you need a break get on the cheap Grabaseat flights to Auckland and camp in my spare room!!!!

You aren't the only one feeling like that - my whole family and alot of my friends are feeling scared, teary, anxious and thoroughly p*ssed off with the aftershocks. Hope your horse is doing ok, this board has been so wonderful with the support. You will be ok. ((Hugs))

Thank god, I really didn't want to come to work today, every time bus goes through I start to run, I'm getting better, but tears very close to surface. Swelling with the girl has gone down, poor thing in such a panic went head first a metal gate! Oh Rach, I'm sorry I didn't ring you back yesterday, was on way out then had entire family with me, then back home, got horses done then had dinner and to bed before the 8.30pm shakes start - I hate going to bed - I start to stress. Most terrifying thing I've ever experienced and am just amazed no one died! Teddy is going to be of comfort to all of us I think.

Definitely not the only one. My sister is teary too and panics every time she hears a large truck on the road and my brother has been emotional as well. Such a tough time for everyone.

Hehe yep and great for toning, though I think that may be all the jumping out of bed/sofa/office/barn lol. I am getting alot of strength funny enough from the horses, they aren't even lifting their heads now when a rumble comes - I think if a flight animal isn't bothered then I should just relax :).

Photographers - I am on the lookout for a photo that shows horses doing a spring yahoo - prefer an action shot of loose horses. Needs to be landscape, high resolution and evoke spring. Also needs to be not cropped or retouched. Email humeg.p@xtra.co.nz
